Our Experiment
For our end-of-the-year biology project we decided to look at the water pollution in central Ohio. We collected water samples from 5 different rivers, creeks and dams in central Ohio. We tested the water to see how polluted it was and researched how the polluted water affects different organisms.
Question
How does pollution affect the amount of bacteria in Ohio water sources?
HypothesisIf we take samples from different water sources in Ohio, we will find more bacterial evidence of pollution in lakes like Hoover Dam and the Scioto River because people boat and there are beaches where trash can go in the water.

Materials- Water from different sources
-Containers for the water - Microscope - Wet Slide - Moticam - Water dropper - Place to record data |
Procedure1. Collect samples of water each from 5 different sources (lake water and creek water). We will collect our samples from Big Darby Creek, Spring Run, Little Darby Creek, Hoover Dam, and the Scioto River.
2. Observe one sample from each source under a microscope, and take a photo with the moticam of the result. 3. Compare the amount of bacteria and trash found in water samples 4. Record the results from each source. |
