Hoover DamHoover Dam holds water from Big Walnut Creek. The dam is located next to a road and allows activities like boating and fishing in the waters. The dam was built in the 1950s and is constructed of concrete. There are many trails, and frisbee golf and playgrounds are few of the activities available close to the dam. When we collected our water samples, there was a small amount of trash on the bank and in the water. The water was cloudy in the sample, and we could see things floating around in it. |
Spring Run
Spring Run is a creek that runs through Inniswood Metro Garden. Inniswood is a popular place for families to take their kids, and many people take photos here for special events. When we went here to collect our water, there was no trash at all in the water and on the bank. The water looked fairly clear, with noticeable algae or dirt. This creek was fairly isolated from the rest of the park--we had to walk a little off of the path to get to it. So, this shows that humans don't really interfere with this source. Scioto River The Scioto River runs through Ohio and is made up of different creeks and streams that run together. It is also made of Big and Little Darby Creeks. The metro park where we collected the samples from is called Scioto Grove. The park is a "no trash in, no trash out" system, so there are no trashcans along the trails. On the bank there was trash all over the place including beer cans and random items like purses and tires. Many people use the river to get rid of their trash and the trash washes up onto the bank of the river. From standing on the bank trash could be seen in and next to the river all the way down the bank. The water was muddy from the movement of the water and the amount of trash in the river. The water was very yellow compared to all of the other samples. |
Big Darby CreekBig Darby Creek runs through Ohio and into the Scioto River. The creek also runs through the metro park Battelle Darby Creek. Both the Little and Big Darby Creeks have over 80 different species of fish and many species of animals and plants. The Big Darby creek looked cleaner than the Scioto River. The water was mostly clear with small specks floating around. Few pieces of trash were on the bank and no trash could be seen floating in the water.
Little Darby Creek Little Darby Creek runs through Ohio and the Battelle Darby Creek metro park along with the Scioto River and the Big Darby Creek. The Little Darby Creek runs into the Scioto River. Like the Big Darby Creek there were very few pieces of trash on the bank and no trash could be seen in the water. The water sample that we collected was mostly clear, only there was a little bit of yellow discoloration compared to the Big Darby Creek. |
